New data from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation indicates that Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, and Red Deer led Canadian cities in new housing starts in 2024. Lethbridge saw a remarkable 194% increase, with 715 new units compared to 243 in 2023. Red Deer experienced an 87% rise, from 189 to 354 units. Edmonton's housing starts rose by 39% to 18,384, while Calgary's increased by 24% to 24,369. Alberta's overall housing starts grew by 32%, but national growth was limited to 2% due to declines in major cities.
