Edmonton city council approved a rezoning bylaw targeting priority growth areas including Wîhkwêntôwin, Garneau, 124th and 156th streets, and Stony Plain Road to encourage medium- to large-scale housing and mixed-use development. Despite public opposition and a failed amendment to exclude part of Garneau, the bylaw aims to support transit-accessible growth. Concerns about land speculation and affordability were raised but the city emphasized demand as the main price driver.
